CAMPAIGNERS hoping to dump plans for a giant incinerator have issued a desperate plea for prizes for a fundraising event.

The family fun day takes place on the Helsby parish field in Lower Robin Hood Lane from noon on Sunday, July 16.

Organisers hope it will help raise some of the estimated £15,000 legal costs needed to fight Peel Environmental's application at a public inquiry, triggered after a Chester City Council objection.

Jane Blair, fundraising co-ordinator for Residents Against Incineration (RAIN), said: 'We could do with the assistance of businesses and residents otherwise we are going to be struggling like mad because we want this to be a significant fundraiser.'

Entrance will be free, but there will be charges for activities.

More than 2,000 people have objected to Peel's plan, fearing health and traffic problems.
