WET weather didn’t dampen spirits at this year’s annual Cholmondeley Castle Triathlon.

Athletes from across the UK competed in a variety of events including swimming, cycling and running at the tournament in the castle grounds.

The day included a special charity challenge for relay teams of three, and sponsors Markel provided a £5,000 prize for the winning team’s nominated charity along with an iPad for each member of the team.

The winners, the Racetime Race Team from Loughborough who were competing in order to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support activities in Leicestershire, completed a 800-metre swim, a 40 km cycle and an 8 km run in just one hour and 45 minutes.

One of the team members said: “We are thrilled to win the Markel prize, especially since the conditions weren’t ideal on Sunday.

“The bike course was tough and it was a very muddy run, courtesy of our lovely summer weather.”

There will be two more castle competitions in the Markel charity challenge - held at various castles around the country.
