MUSIC lovers flocked to Kelsall over the bank holiday weekend for the annual Chester Folk Festival.

Residents from all over the country descended on the village for the 34th year of the music festival, featuring dozens of bands and performers.

There was something to suit all musical tastes during the three-day extravaganza, with performances from The Young ‘Uns, Ritchie-Parrish-Ritchie and BBC Radio 2 Young Folk winners, Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar, to name just a few.

And festival organiser Mal Waite once again joined her daughters Katrina and Rebecca to perform as the harmonious trio The Waite Collective.

Other highlights on the bill were Shropshire-based This Way Up, a five-piece folk and ceilidh group which plays a mix of original and traditional well known tunes.

There were dance bands too, with displays from Kinnerton Morris Men, Bradshaw Mummers and Chester City Morris Men.

Workshops of hatha yoga, French dance and folk improvisation also proved popular, and circus theatre outfit Panic Circus ensured the children were kept entertained at all times.

People took to social media sites afterwards to praise the weekend’s festivities, with one writing ‘Brilliant festival... definitely one of the best’, while another wrote ‘ It was a cracking festival – so much to do and every performance and session fabulous’.

Mal, who has helped to arrange the festival for years, said: “The whole weekend went really well. We were so lucky to have two really nice days and everything went smoothly.”
