ANGLING enthusiasts living within the Chester City Council district can now apply for a season ticket to fish the River Dee for just £20.

In April 2007 the city council granted a five year licence to Prince Albert Angling Society (PAAS) for the fishing rights to most of the council-owned stretches of river bank.

Adult membership of PAAS is £90 per annum plus a Joining Fee of £90 – with a three year waiting list – which entitles anglers to fish all the waters managed by PAAS.

However, Chester residents can now buy an adult season ticket, for the River Dee only, for £20.

Season ticket holders can then apply for membership of PAAS for the 2009/10 season and beyond without going on the waiting list.

To qualify for this concession, applications will need to be submitted to PAAS before December 31, 2008, for entry in Spring 2009.

The Adult Season Ticket offer will continue for the duration of the council’s licence up to 2012.

Applications for juniors to join should be made directly to PAAS. There is no waiting list for juniors and the cost is £12 per annum to fish all PAAS waters.

Residents of Chester in receipt of a disability benefit are eligible for a free Adult Season Ticket. Anglers who are registered blind, or have a Blue Badge or are in receipt of a Disability War Pension also qualify for a free season ticket.

Adult season tickets are dealt with initially by Chester City Council, then forwarded to PAAS.

To apply for an adult season ticket, bring the following to Chester City Council’s reception in the Forum in the city centre:

a passport sized photograph

proof of address

proof of disability if applicable

name, address, telephone number and date of birth

a cheque for £20 made out to Prince Albert Angling Society

Applicants will need the relevant rod licences or other permits required to fish the Dee.
