BRAVE Amy Cox battled pain and discomfort after a serious road accident to achieve outstanding GCSE results against the odds.

The Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School pupil had already sat through a week of examinations when the car she was travelling in was involved in a collision with another vehicle near Chelford.

She spent three days in hospital suffering from internal bruising to her stomach and chest, was forced to miss four exams and feared her education would suffer.

But the determined youngster, who lives at Haddon Close, Holmes Chapel, bounced back to complete the rest of her GCSE exams, despite still being in agony.

Now she is celebrating after notching an outstanding array of grades including one A*, seven As, a B and a C.

Amy, 16, said: 'My dad, John, was driving my friend Megan and I back from Bramhall Fencing Club after school, when a car hit a motorbike and span into us.

'Fortunately, nobody was killed but I was at Macclesfield Hospital for three days. I was able to a little revising there but I was in pain and really worried about my GCSEs.

'I did miss four but I was determined not to miss any others, and managed to sit the rest I am really pleased with my results.'

Amy, who received a moderation mark for the exams she missed, added that she plans to return to Holmes Chapel to study maths, physics, chemistry and art at the sixth form in September.

Her father recovered swiftly from the crash, but Megan suffered a broken back but is expected to make a full covery.

Megan also performed well in difficult circumstances, notching 10 GCSEs .

A school spokesman said: 'Amy continued with her examinations in severe pain and distress. Her achievement is therefore remarkable and she deserves the highest praise.'
