HANDBELL ringers from both sides of the Atlantic will feature in a concert at Chester Cathedral in June.
The American ringers, from all parts of the United States, will be performing in Chester Cathedral on Friday, June 12.
They have invited Chester’s Bishops’ Handbell Ringers, directed by Derek Jackson, to perform a spot during the concert, which will demonstrate the traditional English style of ‘off-table’ ringing.
Both teams will also perform two items together.
The touring handbell team will be directed by Debbie Rice, who is the executive director of the international handbell committee and past president of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers.
The programme will contain classical and traditional favourites.
The following evening the Americans will give a concert at the Liverpool Adelphi Hotel for an invited audience, including the lord mayor of Liverpool, dignitaries and Liverpool business people.
This concert is to raise the profile of handbell ringing in the city ahead of the International Handbell Symposium in 2012 when over 2,000 ringers from all over the world will come to Merseyside’s Echo Arena.
Ringers from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Japan will join American, Canadian and British teams for a four day extravaganza of handbell ringing.
Tickets for the Chester concert, which starts at 7.30pm, are available from the cathedral box office or online at www.chestercathedral.com.
They can also be purchased at the door on the night.
All tickets are £5.
