ORGANISERS of this year’s Tilston Wakes are in clover after achieving their dream of buying a village playing field.

More than 3,500 people gathered at the annual event on Sunday and Monday.

The attendance added another £4,000 to the kitty and put the total beyond the £36,000 needed.

The field is expected to be bought from former resident Peter Egerton- Warburton by December.

Attractions at this year’s Bank Holiday bonanza included the First Slice of the Ox, bought at auction by Barry Rolph for £255, a fancy dress competition and a dog show.

Amy Williams was crowned as this year’s Miss Wakes and her atten- dant was Emily Locke. Gaynor Rowlands was named as Lord Mayor of Tilston.

Organiser Lee Williams said: “Everyone had a fantastic time and we’re really pleased we’ve raised enough to buy the playing field for local people to enjoy for years to come.”
