Marketing Cheshire  and The University of  Manchester’s Jodrell  Bank Discovery Centre  have launched ‘Amazed  By Science’, the first  ever pan-Cheshire science festival.

The festival will take place  from May 24  to June 1 during half term holiday and  aims to capture children’s’  imaginations and excite  families about science in  Cheshire.

Teresa Anderson, director  of Jodrell Bank, said: “The  festival will promote and  celebrate science, technology and engineering  throughout Cheshire.

“We aim to increase interest and engagement in  science for the general public and to increase its relevance to our everyday  lives.

“We hope this will inspire  young people to pursue science at school and to consider a career in this field.

“Cheshire is one of the  UK’s foremost scientific  areas with a rich heritage of  past achievements, as well  as a huge amount of science-based business and  world leading research.

“The festival is a wonderful way to showcase this.”  Venues committed to the  festival include Jodrell  Bank, Daresbury Science  Park, Delamere Forest,  Chester Zoo, Macclesfield  Silk Museum, Chester  Cathedral, Reaseheath Agricultural College, Tatton  Park and the Hack Green  Nuclear Bunker. 

Siemens has been announced as the headline  sponsor for the festival and  commitment has also been  made by several science and  technology companies in  the area including Urenco,  National Nuclear Laboratories, Waters Corporation,  Sellafield, Peel Energy,  C-Tech, EA Technology and  the Cheshire and Warrington Enterprise Partnership.
