SAFETY checks were carried out by Frodsham Town Council after a small piece of asbestos was unearthed during clearance work on overgrown allotments in Kingsway.

Council staff contacted the Environment Agency who advised the material posed no health risks as it had been buried for some time and was damp – but the site was searched to make sure no more was lying around.

Councillors agreed outstanding work on the site would be completed by a Probation Service team drafted in to help with the project.

A team of councillors will also remove a retaining wall from one Kingsway allotment, at the request of the new allotment holder who feared it posed a danger to children.
