A QUEST for adventure and the lure of the sea has drawn a Chester woman to embark on the challenge of a lifetime.
IT project manager Alison Dawson, 46, of Garth Road, Upton is leaving behind the comfort of home to be part of a crew crossing the Atlantic.
She will be one of the crew on the twin-masted brig, Stavros S NIarchos, on a 2,000-mile voyage from Barbados to the Azores, which departs from the Caribbean next Monday.
Alison said: 'I am so excited, I love challenging holidays and have always wanted to cross the Atlantic.' Alison will get to grips with the ropes and rigging, climbing the masts to set the sails 120 feet above the sea, keeping watch and taking the helm.
Her voyage is with Tall Ships Adventures, part of the Portsmouth-based Tall Ships Youth Trust, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
The charity has helped young people, many disadvantaged, to go through a life-changing experience through personal development gained through the adventure of crewing a tall ship.
