WELSH Premier League Club Airbus Broughton is reaping the benefits after receiving grant aid from the Welsh Grounds Improvement (WGI).
WGI is a joint venture between the Welsh Football Trust and Football Association of Wales (FAW) which was set up in 2008 to improve football grounds in Wales.
It has since helped hundreds of FAW affiliated clubs across the country to improve their facilities.
Airbus Broughton was awarded £65,200 by WGI earlier this year and has recently completed construction of a new stand with covered seated accommodation for 160 spectators.Š
The new development will help the Club meet Welsh Premier League ground criteria.
Airbus UK Broughton FC general manager Jonathan Williams said: “Since joining the Welsh Premier League, our facilities have been improved each year to their current high standard.
“Our partnership with WGI and The Welsh Football Trust has been key to our development, and the funding for the new football stand has resulted in us meeting the criteria for seating numbers - as stipulated in FAW Domestic License guidelines.
“As a club, we are keen to develop both on and off the pitch - we budgeted for a new irrigation system during the summer of 2009. The financial support we have received for large capital.
“Projects such as the new stand has been critical to our sustained growth. We are very grateful to receive such support from WGI.”
Welsh Grounds Improvements has provided support for 51 clubs this year across the Welsh Premier League, the Cymru Alliance League, Welsh Football League Division 1 and 2, Mid Wales League, Welsh Alliance League and the Welsh National League.
Ioan Jones from Welsh Grounds Improvements visited the club during the Welsh Cup final match between TNS and Rhyl to give their approval to the new stand and to present a plaque to the club for the work carried out.
Peter Lee, chairman of the Welsh Grounds Improvements Board, said: “It is our aim to continue to help clubs like Airbus Broughton to improve the facilities that they offer to the community.
“With the introduction of this scheme, we hope to help many more clubs improve their future prospects and at the same time close the gap between the standards of facilities in place at football clubs across Wales.”
