A Chronicle competition winner to name a racehorse and share in the glamour of racing at Chester has been announced.

More than 112 entries suggesting 247 names were received and the winner selected by Chester Racing Club.

Racing syndicate Chester Racing Club’s two-year-old bay colt by Catcher in the Rye will be called Admiral of the Dee in a tribute to the Lord Mayor of Chester who is also the Admiral of the Dee.

The horse is stabled at Rob Lloyd’s Racing Stables and is trained by David Murray-Smith.

The winner of the competition was Rosemary Burns of Western Avenue, Blacon. Rosemary and a guest will enjoy two tickets to Chester Racecourse including lunch in the directors’ facilities with David Pickering. She will also own a share in Admiral of the Dee and the horse’s winnings.

Other names shortlisted which were pipped at the post were Roman Dee and 1539.
