A DRUG addict was caught stealing clothes from Winsford market after dropping a blood-soaked tissue at the scene.

Angela McDougall, 27, of Pentland Close, Winsford, admitted theft of clothing and breaking and entering Winsford Market on July 12 when she appeared at Vale Royal Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Prosecuting, Carolyn Viviani, said: 'Entry was gained by smashing a pane of glass. Blood recovered at the scene of the point of entry led to the defendant being identified as the offender.

'She fully admitted that she entered the market and smashed a pane of glass with a piece of wood. She admitted removing clothing and sold it for £50.

'She had been injecting heroin, which caused her to bleed, and she stopped the bleeding by placing tissues on the point of bleeding. One of the tissues fell out at the scene and was recovered.

'The offences were committed whilst on licence and she still has a lengthy sentence to serve.'

Defending, Derek McDonald said Mc-Dougall is currently in custody for supplying drugs and is serving two years' remand for dishonesty and supplying class A drugs.

Mr McDonald said: 'She is clearly still suffering the effects of drugs - if she continues to go the way she is going then she may well not live much longer.'

Chairwoman of the bench, Elizabeth Pachel, said: 'What makes this more serious is that it was a forcible entry and caused harm to a business. It was committed intentionally and there was damage to property.'

McDougall was given a three-month custodial sentence to run concurrently with her prison sentence.
