CHESHIRE Safety Camera Partnership is urging people to pay attention to the speed camera on Sealand Road in Chester.

A fixed speed camera has been installed to reduce collisions and casualties. There were 16 collisions on this road over a 36-month period - five resulting in fatal or serious injuries

Lee Murphy, project manager for Cheshire Safety Camera Partnership, said: 'Strict Government criteria means cameras can only be placed where there is a high proportion of fatal or serious injury collisions and drivers exceeding the speed limit.

'We are keen to remind drivers that speed enforcement is now taking place on Sealand Road - a road on which people have died or suffered serious injuries.

'The camera is painted yellow so it can be easily identified and signs have been erected in advance of the camera.

'Not only should this ensure compliance with the speed limit, it should alert road users to the fact they are near to a collision 'hot spot' and remind everyone that a few miles per hour faster does make a significant difference.'

Speed and red-light enforcement is currently undertaken at 58 sites across the county as part of a drive to reduce collisions and casualties on Cheshire's roads.

Sealand Road is one of six collision 'hot spots' in the Chester and Ellesmere Port area where enforcement is undertaken. The partnership has issued the following fixed camera sites & collision data:

A56 Hoole Road, Chester, towards the city centre - 31 personal injury collisions; four resulted in people being killed or seriously injured;

A548 Sealand Road, Chester, towards the city centre - 16 personal injury collisions; five resulted in people being killed or seriously injured;

A5104 Hough Green, Chester - 22 personal injury collisions; four resulted in people being killed or seriously injured

Red-light camera sites & collision data: A5480 Deva Link/Saughall Road, Chester - eight personal injury collisions; two resulted in people being killed or seriously injured.
