Two Abbey Gate College students took part in the inaugural Liverpool International Horse Show earlier this month.

Show jumpers Goldie Morgan, 13 and her brother Red, 11, were among 12 young pony riders from throughout the UK who were specially selected to compete in the first international event of its type in Liverpool.

Featuring in the ‘mini major’ part of the show at the Echo Arena where young pony riders are teamed with professional show jumpers, Goldie competed with Nicole Parvitt to claim third place.

Goldie, from Malpas, said: “It was amazing to be part of such an energetic show and to meet the show jumpers. I would love to be involved again next year as show jumping is a hobby I really enjoy.”

Deputy headteacher Gavin Allmand said: “It was a real honour for Goldie and Red to be invited to take part in this event and as active members of the college’s equestrian team, it is great to hear that they are continuing to make excellent progress.
