ABBEY Gate College heads of school have been learning the ropes.

Head girl Lucy Kennedy, of Willaston, near Neston, head boy Liam Moses, of Broughton, deputy head girl Jessica Alterman, of Northwich, and deputy head boy Peter Edge, of Whitchurch, attended a senior prefect conference at Rishworth School in West Yorkshire in August.

The conference, run by SHMIS (society of headmasters and headmistresses of independent schools), was aimed at preparing students for the year ahead.

The two-day programme tackled issues such as chairing meetings, public speaking, organisation of large events, and time management.

Students were also offered a guide on etiquette, including a practical session on wine tasting.

Deputy headteacher Gavin Allmand said: “The enthusiasm and commitment of the staff led to a very enjoyable, challenging and rewarding experience for the students. It will ensure the new heads of school approach their tasks this year with confidence and a clear sense of purpose.”
