OPENING Saighton Grange gardens to the public helped raised £1,000 for Claire House Hospice.

The gardens at Abbey Gate College were opened as part of the National Gardens Scheme and all proceeds went to the hospice. Representatives from the hospice provided refreshments which raised almost half of the amount, the rest coming from gate receipts.

The Saighton Grange site is 6.5 acres of formal garden, designed by Harry Inigo Triggs in 1901 for the second Duke of Westminster. They were redesigned for the fourth Duchess of Westminster during the 1960s by James Russell, famous for work at Castle Howard.
