STUDENTS at Ellesmere Port Catholic High School are celebrating an outstanding year of A-Level results.

A delighted headteacher Pete Lee said: “Our 67 candidates sat papers in 20 different subjects with many also sitting the general studies papers.

“Almost all sat three subjects and they achieved an overall pass rate of 95% with 34% of results graded at A*, A or B. This is an increase on last year and it is in line with the best examination results of previous years.

“As entry qualifications for university degree courses these results are critical and, despite the stories about pressures on university places, the overwhelming majority of candidates have secured places at their first choice universities. Early indications put this at around 70%.”
