AN 85-YEAR-old woman has died after a car careered off a Cheshire road and got stuck on an embankment.

At around 2.20pm emergency services were called to the A483 on Wrexham Road near Dodleston after a silver Vauxhall Corsa collided a red Toyota Corolla.

Firefighters worked to free the 27-year-old male driver of the Corsa and a 85-year-old female passenger after the collision forced the car off the road and into an embankment.

The female passenger, who has not been named, from the Worcester area, was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital where she later died from serious chest injuries.

The driver of the car, also from Worcester was treated for minor injuries.

At the time of the collision police closed the northbound lane while firefighters worked to free the couple from the car.

The driver of the Corolla, a 47-year-old man from Prestatyn, was not hurt during the crash.
