A DRIVER seen travelling along the A55 at an estimated 80mph and speaking on his mobile phone was stopped by police - and was found to have been drink-driving.
David Sutch, 45, of Alyndale Road, Saltney, was found to be just over the drink-driving limit, with 87 miligrammes of alcohol in 100ml of blood, compared with the legal limit of 80.
He was banned from driving for a year at Flintshire Magistrates Court, where he was also fined £300 and ordered to pay £55 costs.
The court heard how he was seen driving along the eastbound carriageway of the A55 dual-carriageway at an estimated speed of 80mph.
He was seen to be weaving slightly in his lane.
Officers overtook him and he was seen to be using a mobile phone, said Rhian Jackson, prosecuting.
Sutch was stopped and indicated he had his last drink 45 minutes previously at Deganwy. He provided a positive roadside breath test and was arrested.
He was unable to provide a specimen at the police station - police accepted he had a medical reason for not doing so - and he provided a blood sample two hours after his original stop, which produced the high alcohol reading.
