A luxurious £6 million residential and nursing home in Chester has been officially opened by Sanctuary at a VIP reception.
Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home, which is positioned alongside the Countess of Chester Hospital, was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of Chester Cllr Hugo Deynem, who was given a guided tour to see the facilities available for residents. The tour was followed by a reception, with live music and the ceremonial cutting of a ribbon by Mr Deynem and two of the home’s first residents, Jean Capner and Gill Hunt.
The home, managed by Sanctuary Care, features 74 beautifully decorated and furnished en-suite bedrooms and provides residential, residential dementia, nursing and palliative care, as well as intermediate care where patients recuperate following a hospital stay before returning home.
The nursing home is Sanctuary Group’s first care operation in Chester and is the latest of a series of significant investments in the area which include the regeneration of Blacon Parade and new residential housing in Avonlea, Malpas and Lache.
Mr Deynem said: “I am really impressed with the facilities at Upton Dene Residential and Nursing Home, which is a great addition to the local community.
It was a pleasure to open the home and meet residents who are already enjoying this wonderful development from Sanctuary.”

On cutting the ribbon with the Lord Mayor and fellow resident Gill Hunt, Jean Capner, who is 86 years old said: “Cutting the ribbon with the Mayor was great fun, it was fantastic to be involved as I’ve been here since week one and I genuinely love living here. I find everything so special; the whole ambience of the place is very good.”
The home also boasts light and airy lounges and dining rooms, a cinema room, hairdressing and beauty salon, a treatment room and a private dining area for residents and their loved ones to enjoy special family occasions, as well as sensory gardens, under floor heating and Wi-Fi.
