ALMOST 400 children have become Cheshire Junior Recycling Officers for the coming school year to promote the Reduce, Re-use and Recycle message.

This is the 15th year of the Junior Recycling Club and the new officers from primary and junior schools have received their certificates and recycling packs at six launches across Cheshire.

Over the coming months, the junior recycling officers will organise events and competitions in their schools and will promote the recycling message to classmates, teachers, family and friends.

In March 2009 they compete in the Junior Recycling Officer of the Year competition.

Cheshire’s executive member for environment Andrew Needham said: “Our junior recycling officers always work hard and have fun promoting the important recycling message.

“As well as receiving newsletters throughout the year packed with ideas they will also for the first time be able to access a special junior recycling officer section of the Recycle for Cheshire website to access posters and information.

”My own granddaughter was a junior recycling officer and now grown up, she has still retained this good practice.”
