FOUR Girls from the 2nd Tarporley Guide unit are celebrating their success in this year’s Cheshire Hike.

The Cheshire Hike is an annual competition open to all Scouts and Guides in Cheshire and the 44th hike was held earlier this month.

The girls completed a full training programme organised by a team of Guiders from Cheshire Forest County, beginning in October 2009 and building up to the hike in April 2010.

They worked in teams of two, navigated and walked 30km over two days and completed challenges at check points along the way. They also carried all their kit, camped out overnight at a set base camp and cooked their own meals.

Guide leader Brenda Soutar said: “This is not an event for the faint-hearted. Not only did the girls complete the challenge but one of the teams from 2nd Tarporley Guides won the Junior Section Guide County Trophy, which is for girls aged 11-12, and our winning team came a magnificent second overall of all the 97 teams of Scouts and Guides in that section.

“It’s a massive achievement.”
