Chicken curry was the favourite on the menu at Tarvin Primary School last week when all pupils were offered a free school lunch as part of a Cheshire West and Chester Council initiative

Jasmine Blain, 10, sent in a photograph of her and friend Roman Beech giving the meals the thumbs up.

She said: “All the meals are very tasty, the cooks, the midday assistants are friendly and helpful and  dinner time is a fun time.

“The puddings are yummy scrummy.”

Jasmine’s mum Emma is a kitchen assistant at the school.

She said: “We served 200 meals that day, more than twice the number we normally serve.

“It’s the chicken curry that they like the best.

“Everything was prepared fresh on the day and we hope that this will encourage more pupils to have school dinners in future.

“After all, they are really nutritious.”

The council was the first in the country to take up the Great Free School  Lunch initiative  and city MP Stephen Mosley enjoyed his lunch at Dee Point Primary School in Blacon.

He said: “I had great fun visiting Dee Point Primary School and having lunch with the children. It’s been a long time since I had school dinners and one thing’s for sure – they’re better than ever and the children love them."
