UPTON scouts raced to a string of top-two positions in a car racing event.

The National Scout Car Race saw cubs, scouts and explorer scouts compete in a range of races held in Scarborough.

Scouts and wolf explorers from 1st Upton took part in the event, competing in the first division following their success in previous events.

But there was controversy in the sprint championship final two-lap race as the 1st Upton crew was stripped of victory.

One of the marshals decreed the 1st Upton car had moved across into the driving line of the second-placed car and so the team was penalised into second place.

A pitlane mix-up in the Grand Prix Event also resulted in bad luck striking 1st Upton, as they were again penalised into second place.

The wolf explorers fared better, taking first place in the team event, second in the sprint championship and second in the grand prix event.

There was also success among the team leaders, with the male team leaders taking victory in their race and the female team leaders taking second place.
