The River Dee in Cheshire remains on flood alert this morning, and experts say levels may rise further as continued rainfall is expected in the area.

The flood warning issued by The Environment Agency almost a week ago is currently in place for the wider stretch of the Dee which includes Chester, Farndon, Handley, Lower Kinnerton, and Puddington.

As of Monday morning (December 7), the Dee's water levels from Shocklach to Chester are still high.

A statement on the Environment Agency's website reads: "Levels on the River Dee remain high, and may rise further with continued rainfall over the area. We will continue to monitor the situation and update as required."

The alert comes days after the Dee burst its banks at Farndon , when rescue boats were sent out by emergency services to reassure the public.

Meanwhile, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have now dispatched teams to assist with the large scale flooding in Cumbria, last night posting a photo of one of the rescue boats being deployed, on the team's Facebook page.
