A YOUNG woman from Ellesmere Port has developed her skills by working with residents and colleagues at Chester & District Housing Trust as part of a national training initiative.

Jenny Offlands has taken part in a six-month Future Jobs Fund training scheme at the Trust, working as admin support for housing options advisors, finance advisers and resettlement officers.

As part of her work experience, Jenny has been on training courses for equality and diversity, assertiveness, first aid and customer services excellence.

Jenny, of Ledsham Park, Little Sutton, has also had the opportunity to pass on her skills to residents who are over 55, by teaching them computer skills as part of the BBC First Click computer initiative. Jenny has also helped people job search, as well as helping to improve CVs and application forms.

Sharon Morris, CDHT Housing Options & Pathways manager, said: “The delivery of the Future Jobs Fund has been a huge success and I am pleased that this initiative has enabled the organisation to work more closely with residents from Ellesmere Port and Neston.”

Jenny, 20, added: “I’ve really enjoyed this opportunity at CDHT and have definitely developed my skills at the Trust.

“I wasn’t always that confident and panicked when the phone rang. Now I just pick it up and am much more confident with people, face-to-face. I’ve fitted in well and the Trust is keeping me busy.

“Everyone’s really helpful and it is a really good place to work. It’s been so rewarding working with residents and colleagues – I’d recommend CDHT to anyone.”

CDHT has offered a total of 53 Future Jobs Fund placements to young people from across Cheshire West & Chester in the past 18 months and currently has 20 individuals in post.
