A YOUNG inventor from Ellesmere Port won a national award for his toothpaste dispensing creation.

Andrew Miller, MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, will meet Neston High School student Joshua Molyneux at an awards ceremony at Parliament in January.

Joshua was selected by an expert judging panel as a national winner of the We Made It! competition.

Put forward by Mr Miller, Joshua designed a toothpaste dispenser for children which distributes the exact pea-sized amount of paste required for a child’s daily brushing.

His design was recognised by the judges as being easy to build and extremely intuitive.

We Made It! is a campaign aimed at getting young people thinking about careers in manufacturing, inviting 13 to 16-year-olds throughout the UK to let their imagination run wild and design a product.

Mr Miller said: “The idea of the competition was that young people get to see that manufacturing is about design and creativity as well as the hands-on making of the products.

“I was extremely impressed by Joshua’s design – which just pipped several other brilliant ideas from young people in our community – and am delighted he has won this award. I look forward to meeting him early next year in Parliament.”
