REGENERATION agency Chester Renaissance is advertising for a new chairman on a fee of £10,000 a year for no less than two days a month.

This follows the decision by Shane Flynn to step down from the position later this year. US-based Mr Flynn was never paid but received about £30,000 expenses over two years for flights and hotels.

The new head of the regeneration agency will, according to the job description, “work with key public and private sector investors and funding bodies to re-energise and reshape the city while protecting Chester’s past, by supporting/delivering the city's regeneration agenda”.

The chairman will also be responsible for governance and strategic direction.

Chester Renaissance says it is likely that the successful candidate will be from the private sector and have leadership experience at board level within high profile organisations.

The successful candidate will possess skills in the development of strong alliances and working relationships with a range of stakeholders both public and private sector.

Mr Flynn, former chief executive of MBNA Europe in Chester, will remain as a non-executive director.

Closing date for applications is Friday June 11.
