A MOTHER and son team have set up a cafe in a heritage park.

Dani Jayes, 52, and son Jason, 22, launched their new venture, the Greenpea Cafe, in Greenfield Valley Heritage Park last week.

Dani, who started off her career with a food stall in Camden, had moved to the area after spending time in a holiday home in the region and spotted the site while walking her dog.

She decided it was the perfect spot for a cafe and chef Jason, who has previously worked at the Four Seasons in London, turned down a job in Venice to work with his mum.

Manager of the cafe Gareth Edwards said: “It’s such a fantastic spot here, you have the view of the water in one direction and the other way is the heritage park and Basingwerk Abbey.”

The food on offer at the cafe is a mix of different cultures, Gareth said, and a new menu is drawn up every day.

“It means we can use ingredients which are fresh and in season,” he said.

“We use a lot of home grown veg and meat which is sourced locally.

“We’ve got a bit of a Mediterranean theme with the food but there’s a real mix and we’re also putting a twist on classics like Welsh rarebit.”

As well as meals, the cafe serves cake, coffee, breakfasts and ice creams.

It has been open since April but an official launch event was held last week.

Gareth said: “We’ve had people coming in who only live 100m away but never knew this place was here.

“It’s a great site for us because we have visitors to the heritage park and we’re also close to a lot of businesses, so we’re looking at doing outside catering as well.”
