Chester garage company Kwik Fit invited two very different types of motorist into its Nicholas street centre.
Although the motorists ranged from die-hard petrolheads to those who rarely pick up a spanner, they were there with the same aim – to attend car maintenance masterclasses.
Hardcore enthusiasts participated in an evening to improve performance, followed the next day by women drivers being shown basic car maintenance and checks that can be completed at home.
More than 20 members of the local Mazda MX-5 owners club took their cars down for a Pirelli Performance Evening, where they met motoring experts and got up to speed with the latest ways to optimise the performance of their cars.
The event saw three Pirelli technicians and the expert Kwik Fit centre staff provide a series of demonstrations focusing on several areas of motoring performance, including the centre’s state of the art Hunter wheel alignment technology, a tyre tech session and advice on EU labelling.
Attendees were also given the opportunity to have a go on Pirelli’s very own F1 simulator.
The following event saw nine members of the local Women’s Institute in attendance at the Ladies in the Driving Seat event.
This was primarily aimed at women who want to learn a bit more about their car and as a result, feel more confident and comfortable if they ever need to go to a garage.
The event provided hands-on car maintenance demonstrations as well as useful information and tips on areas such as oil, coolant, tyres, brakes and electrics.
The expert Kwik Fit team was on hand to answer any questions that attendees had about their vehicles and provided practical advice for car care that they could conduct themselves at home.
Ian Parkinson, centre manager of the Nicholas Street Centre in Chester, said: “We’re really honoured that the organisers behind Chester Adult Learning Week asked us to hold these masterclasses and the popularity of both events have shown that classes don’t just have to be for beginners.
“Learning is just as important during adulthood as it is during your earlier years, and knowing about car maintenance or performance is something that is often overlooked as being important – despite the fact your car’s condition could actually be putting the safety of the driver or passengers at risk.”
