A CHARITABLE superstore has ensured hundreds of suppliers chipped in for a good cause in its annual charity amateur golf classic day.

Iceland Foods’s event, held in Chester’s Carden Park Hotel, raised more than £100,000 for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

More than 250 suppliers, playing in teams of four, enjoyed a day of golf followed by a gala dinner attended by more than 340 guests.

Firms taking part in the golf day, now in its 19th year, included McCains, Procter and Gamble UK and Arla Foods.

The gala dinner included a Champagne reception before guests were given the opportunity to bid for a wealth of ‘money can’t buy’ experiences in a live interactive auction.

Lots on offer ranged from a box at Manchester United, tickets to the British Grand Prix to quirky lots such as afternoon tea at Claridges with Stacey Solomon.

The evening concluded with entertainment from comedian Jason Manford.

Malcolm Walker, chief executive at Iceland, said: “We would like to extend a big ‘thank you’ to everyone involved with the event, which raised such a tremendous amount of money for The Prostate Cancer Charity.

“As always, it was a fabulous day, and Iceland is delighted to continue its support for the excellent work that the charity does for those suffering from the most common cancer among men in the UK.”

Mark Bishop, director of fundraising at The Prostate Cancer Charity, said: “The Iceland Charity Amateur Golf Classic is such a fantastic event, and we’re thrilled to have been a part of it.

“On behalf of everyone at the charity, I would like to thank everyone involved for such a sizeable contribution to our work.”
