DE VERE Deluxe Carden Park raised more than £30,000 for Christie Hospital following a high profile celebrity Howard Keel Golf Day.

For a second year running, Carden Park invited a host of celebrity faces to get into the swing of things and raise money, and their game, for the charity event.

Among the famous faces were former Liverpool football manager Graeme Souness, comedian Jasper Carrott, former Eagles singer Don Felder and Tony Christie. Joining them from Carden Park was general manager Hamish Ferguson, golf pro Stuart Carnie and men’s club captain Tony McMahon.

On the day, Tony Knowles who was teamed up with Enterprise Gas showed their golfing pedigree, securing first place, beating Atherton Consulting partnered with John H Stracey into second place and the De Vere team into third spot respectively.

All money raised from the event will be donated to Christie Hospital in Manchester, one of the leading cancer treatment centres in Europe.

Stuart Carnie, De Vere Deluxe Carden Park’s head of golf explained: ‘We’re honoured to host this annual charity golf match which celebrates its second year at Carden Park. The day raised £30,000 for Christie Hospital and it was great to see the celebrities competing for a good cause. It has been a huge success and the course team are already looking forward to hosting next year’s event.’

Toni Leden, appeals director and head of fundraising at Christie Hospital in Manchester said: ‘We are thrilled to have been chosen as the charity that benefits from the celebrity golf tournament at Carden Park, and grateful that so much money was raised. We very much hope that we will be chosen again in the future, and that the event continues to grow from strength to strength.’
