A CHESTER hairstylist is in line for a national award – for the fifth year running.

James Whyte, of Soul Hairdressing, Watergate Row has reached the regional finals of the 2008 British Hairdressing Awards.

“I was delighted when I received my letter telling me I had made it,” said James.

“To be recognised by your peers as being one of the country’s leading hairdressers and being involved in the British Hairdressing Awards is both a wonderful feeling and a great achievement.”

The salon, which employs 11 members of staff, was opened in October 2007 by James and business partner Vitara Seminara.

The pair met while working together in London and when they decided to set up their own business, they chose Chester, where James had previously worked for 17 years as an artistic director for another company.

This is the fifth year he has reached the final but this time he is hopeful that his talent will be recognised.

He said: “My collection this year was based on New Age Chic.

“I had to submit four high-fashion images to secure a place in the final, and four more for the final judging.

“I have no idea why, but I am classed as being in the Midlands region. Coming from Manchester, I would rather be in the North West category. I am proud of being from the North West and Chester is such a great base for us.”

James will have to wait until November 24 to find out if he will be awarded the title of Hairdresser of the Year when he attends an awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.
