DINERS flocked to Rufus Court last week for a special Sex and the City night at Bollicini in aid of The British Red Cross Disaster Fund.

The fundraiser, organised by Eileen Owens of Bollicini, raised funds for cyclone and earthquake victims in Burma and China through the themed evening, which included Sex and the City cocktails, film clips of Carrie and her friends and a real New York yellow taxi cab.

Mrs Owens, of Handbridge, said: “When we learned about the devastation caused in Asia we knew we had to do something to help.

“With the launch of the new Sex and the City film, this specially themed evening in our restaurant and bar seemed the obvious choice to have fun and raise funds at the same time.”

More than 120 women came to the red carpet evening of glamour and glitz, which included hunky shirtless waiters, cosmopolitan cocktails, bellini’s and a luxury charity auction.

High value prizes donated by local businesses included Face Matters, Jo Malone, Alizari, Micha Bella, the Hill Valley Hotel, Alec Edwards of Handbridge and City Gate, among many others.

Molton Brown and Cointreau sponsored the event with each guest receiving a free Molton Brown gift bag along with a pink Sex in the City cocktail shaker.

Mrs Owens said: “We all had a really good evening and our guests clearly enjoyed themselves. We are lucky at Bollicini as we can accommodate all sorts of tastes and activities due to the space we have.”

The money raised will now go to help The British Red Cross Disaster Fund send aid flights to Mynmar, carrying emergency supplies to help stricken people in the worst affected areas, as well asŠassisting thousands of people affected in the Sichuan Province of China.
