A bar and restaurant company is returning ‘home’ to open a new venture at the same location where it enjoyed past success.

Living Ventures is opening its third outlet in The Botanist chain at the former Living Room premises in St Werburgh Street, Chester.

The company actually owned The Living Room group until 2007 when it was sold for what co-founder Tim Bacon describes as ‘silly money’ a year before the crash.

But last May The Orchid Group, who bought the brand from the administrators, closed the Chester Living Room venue, leaving the premises empty until now.

Today The Living Room group is owned by the Stonegate Pub Company.

The Botanist chain, which has other outlets in Alderley Edge and Leeds, is owned by the subsidiary, New World Trading Company, which was established in 2011.

The blurb on its website states: “The Botanist offers a well stocked cellar of cask-conditioned ales, more than 40 bottled beers and ciders from around the world, a selection of finest Champagnes and an intriguing cocktail menu.

“Food at The Botanist comes in the form of a deli-style menu with rotisserie and barbecue.

“Owned and operated by the New World Trading Company, The Botanist is a concept unlike anything else!”

A revamp of the Chester premises is currently under way with the opening date scheduled for March.

Company co-founder and chief executive Tim Bacon commented: “It’s exciting to be coming back to the city with a great concept. The Botanist will have many exciting features including a walled garden on the first floor.”
