A FAMILY-OWNED garage in Ellesmere Port is celebrating its 40th year of business.

Four decades after it was taken over by Roy Walkden, Brookdale Garage on Ledsham Road has continued to thrive, with Roy’s whole family getting on board to help keep it going.

Roy opened the garage in 1972 with support from his wife Margaret and father Reg, and it became a popular outlet for MOT testing, servicing, welding and general repairs.

Twenty years later Roy’s son Ian joined forces with his father to become a partner in the garage, and the two have worked together ever since, marking the second generation of father and son.

And Ian is now hoping his own young sons Matthew and Daniel will follow in his footsteps and join the family business.

He said: “The relationship I have with my dad is great and I will be ensuring mine is the same with my sons too – they often try to help out and get dirty.

“My wife Mary and mum Margaret do the bookkeeping and my sister Kate also used to work there as a mechanic so the whole family all really work well together.”

Roy added: “It is great to have a family business and work with my skilled son Ian, who I am very proud of, he has excellent knowledge which he has passed on to our top mechanic.

“We’d like to thank our loyal customers for their continued support and business over the years.

“Brookdale Garage isn’t just a garage, it is a family-orientated, skilled workshop with great knowledge and experience and that’s why it has lasted 40 years.

“Long may it continue!”
