Cordelia Nicholas has been handpicked to travel on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to represent the town’s Asda at parent company Walmart’s annual associates week and shareholders’ meeting in Arkansas.

Cordelia is one of just a handful of Asda store associates selected to attend the conference in recognition of going the extra mile over the 18 months she has worked for the store and 31 years working with Asda including several stores across Merseyside and Asda House in Leeds.

During the trip in June she will have the opportunity to meet fellow colleagues from all around the globe including India, China and Canada.

They might also find themselves joined by more famous faces with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Tom Cruise and Miley Cyrus all having previously entertained at the annual event which will take place in the giant Bud Walton Arena at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Those attending cheer during the meeting but are not allowed to take in items such as fireworks, noisemakers, horns or confetti which might be a safety hazard or disrupt the proceedings.

Cordelia commented: “I couldn’t believe it when I found out that I’d been nominated to attend this year’s Walmart shareholders’ conference to represent Asda and my local area.

“I’m very excited about going to the USA and I can’t wait to meet some of my international colleagues. I’m proud to work for Asda and of my achievements.”

Arkansas has been the home of Walmart since 1950. Fifteen thousand people attend the meeting, part of a week long event with sees most days starting at 5am with everything from mall visits to store tours.
