GREAT entertainment, fantastic competitions, bargains galore and bags of festive atmosphere are set to make Chester the first choice destination for Christmas shoppers of all ages this year.
This extensive programme of celebrations, events and offers has been put together in partnership with the local tourism board Visit Chester & Cheshire, Chester City Council and the Chester City Management group.
Fairies, food and some fabulous surprises will all be contributing to this year’s Christmas in Chester theme of ‘Be enchanted’, offering a welcome distraction to the current global economic gloom.
The Christmas in Chester experience is being promoted throughout Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Warrington and North East Wales to attract visitors and residents, and help boost Chester’s retail fortunes.
The programme was launched last night with a stunning parade and firework display marking the switch-on of the City centre’s Christmas lights. The event will be attended by Santa’s very own reindeer, and some other very cuddly guests that no younger readers will want to miss!
The programme also includes a fun-filled £1,000 ‘Find the Fairies’ competition in the City Centre, street entertainment galore, a fairy ice sculpture and the UK’s one and only Chester Fairy Day tomorrow.
“This tremendous partnership with Chester City Council and the City Centre Management team has helped generate a fantastic programme which will deliver some magical memories for residents and visitors of all ages, and create extra business opportunities for our retailers and services,” said Visit Chester & Cheshire Chief Executive, Chris Brown.
The ‘Free after three’ parking initiative will be maintained throughout the run-up to Christmas in conjunction with the free Park ‘n’ Ride in the City.
