TWO Chester brothers are celebrating after news that their restaurant will be listed in the prestigious Good Food Guide.
Joe and Ben Wright run Joseph Benjamin on Northgate Street, which, along with Michael Caines @ABode, will be listed for the first time in the 2012 edition of the foodie bible.
The guide will also re-list Chester Racecourse’s Restaurant 1539.
The Good Food Guide is internationally recognised by lovers of good food. Selection is based entirely on readers’ recommendations and inspection reports and entries cannot elect to be in the guide, nor pay for inclusion.
Joseph Benjamin’s delicatessen, tucked next door to the restaurant beneath the City Walls, has also been declared one of the top ten in the country this week by Lovefood.com .
Ben Wright, who runs front of house at the restaurant and delicatessen said: “We’ve worked really hard for the last five years working out what Chester wants from a local, neighbourhood restaurant and this is great recognition that we are getting it right.”
Brother Joe, head chef, added: “This is fantastic. To be included in The Good Food Guide is a brilliant achievement for us and all of our staff – not to mention the contribution of all of our fantastic local suppliers who are all part of the family.”
Recent additions to the delicatessen include freshly made sandwiches, take-away picnics and gourmet gift hampers. In the restaurant, the menu changes monthly and daily specials are created by Joe and his team.
Wine-enthusiast Ben serves around 20 different wines by the glass and offers locally produced real ale on draught.
He said: “The difference is in friendly, knowledgeable service that is not arrogant or pretentious – we just want people to enjoy themselves.”
Joseph Benjamin is also rated number one in Chester on Trip Advisor.
