IT’S game on for an independent Chester-based duo as their firm’s debut title is in the frame for a hat-trick of awards.

Software developer Totem Games, which was founded in June last year, has received critical acclaim for its first game, Space Off.

The game, which can be played by two people on one phone, was released earlier this year.

Now the Saughall-based company, comprising Matt and Jill Cavanagh, has had its game shortlisted in three categories at the Tiga Games Industry Awards – arcade, game design and best debut.

Among its rivals for the honours include Worms Revolution developers Team 17, Aardman Animations and Double Eleven, which created LittleBigPlanet for the PlayStation Vita.

Matt said: “I’m very pleased to make it this far, to be honest. I did not expect us to be in contention for three awards, certainly by this time last year.

“We will be going to the ceremony and if we do happen to win an award it would be fantastic.”

The award ceremony will take place in Bath Assembly Rooms, Bath, today (Thursday).

Totem Games is now hard at work creating a follow-up title, titled Free Quiz, which is to be released next month.

Matt said: “This will be a free-to-play title and one which we will build and add new quizzes to each month.

“The mobile market is a lot more casual than console and computer games and this would be a title anyone could play.

“The next one I am hoping to develop after that would be a role-playing game, which would be the biggest title we have made so far.”
