The director of a Chester firm has scooped two North West Director of the Year Awards, run by the Institute of Directors (IoD) highlighting the strength of the region’s science, technology, media and infrastructure sectors.
Richard Law, chief executive of GB Group, was crowned North West Overall Director of the Year and also topped the Large Company Director of the Year category at the awards ceremony held at Manchester’s Midland Hotel.
Richard has been at the helm of the IT security business based at Chester Business Park since 2001 and has been instrumental in helping the company, which helps to combat the rise in identity fraud, to successfully compete and expand in a highly innovative industry.
More than 250 people from the North West business community gathered at the event, with a total of 13 awards presented on the night across a range of categories and covering regions including Manchester, Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside and Cumbria.
Richard said: “I am overwhelmed to have won both awards. It is fantastic to be recognised for building a business which is expanding globally and creating jobs in the North West.”
Mike Perls, chairman of the IoD North West, said: “As the chief executive of one of the North West’s fastest-growing tech companies, Richard is a very worthy overall winner.
“He’s an excellent example of how a director should operate, demonstrating extensive business knowledge and excellent people management skills.
“This year’s winners reflect the strength of the North West’s key industries including science, technology, telecoms and infrastructure as well as the fast-growing content community.
“They have all proven themselves to be innovative directors who are the driving force behind their organisations and their inspirational success stories underline the positive impact that business leaders have on the region’s economy.”
All of the North West winners will be put forward to the National IoD Awards, which will be held later this year in London.
