A CARE home worker was shortlisted for an industry award.

Lionel Woolley, 43, activity coordinator and e-learning mentor at Wealstone Care Home, Upton, was shortlisted in the care newcomer category for the 2011 Great North West Care Awards.

Winners of the nine regional events will be automatically nominated for the national Great British Care Awards.

Home manager Lianne Smith said: “When he started at Wealstone last year he was new to the care sector but his determination to keep learning and developing his skills and caring for the residents in every way possible has seen him become a vital part of our care team.”

Lionel said: “I came into the job with no experience in the field, I just wanted a new challenge and I knew it would be fulfilling and rewarding work. I’m honoured to have been nominated.”

The winners of the Great North West Care Awards will be announced at a ceremony at Blackpool Tower on October 8.

The national Great British Care Awards will be held in May 2012.
