A HAWARDEN business is branching out to protect companies against the risks of social media.

E-Treble9 is a new arm of Treble9 – an innovative business which helps companies cope during a crisis.

Set up by former police sergeant Henry Platten, of Hawarden, experts are able to provide advice about online security and how to deal with malicious reviews posted on websites.

He explained that many businesses being reviewed on hospitality and tourism websites such as TripAdvisor are not happy and the team at E-Treble9 are being called in more and more to investigate what businesses believe to be malicious reviews.

Mr Platten said: “When working with businesses to look at the risks they might face, and how to plan around those risks to ensure business continuity, we were continually coming across the need for better management of online presence and reputation.”

He claims that 43% of organisations have been a victim of a social media attack.

“We’re increasingly asked to investigate malicious and damaging comments made via social media and social websites such as TripAdvisor,” added Mr Platten.

“Businesses at the receiving end of malicious reviews, whether posted on Facebook, Twitter, TripAdvisor or other sites cannot afford to ignore them. In a competitive environment you have to ensure your online reputation is protected and upheld.”
