A CHESTER business is proving a lucky charm when it comes to sport sponsorship.

BiG Storage, which has already seen success through sponsoring Chester FC and Warrington Wolves, saw its logo splashed on the back pages of the Sunday Mirror and Sunday Telegraph.

The reason for the exposure was BiG Storage is the shirt sponsor for non-league Macclesfield Town Football Club, which last Saturday triumphed 2-1 over Championship giants Cardiff City in the FA Cup.

BiG Storage managing director Kevin Murphy said: “Since our formation six years ago, we have always intended to support local community clubs, for example, in the revival of the Cheshire Phoenix basketball team.

“We have sponsored Chester FC, who have won back-to-back titles; Warrington Wolves, who won the Challenge Cup for the first time; and now Macclesfield Town.

“Sponsoring Macclesfield came as the club was relegated the previous season and didn’t have a shirt sponsor, so we stepped in to help with a one-year deal.

“It’s great to be associated with sporting successes and brings that feel-good feeling to these communities.

“We are a Chester-based company and it was great to see our logo appear alongside all the big-name clubs with big-name sponsors on the sports pages.

“I was inundated with messages after the game, the company logo was on the back pages and shown on the ITV highlights programme.”

The next test of the firm’s lucky charm will be if Macclesfield Town’s next FA Cup game, to be played at home, will be televised live. The club face Premier League strugglers Wigan Athletic after the latter beat Bournemouth 1-0 in their third round replay on Tuesday night.
