A CHILDREN’S community club has been improved thanks to a Chester bank.

With help from high street store B&Q, 24 employees from M&S Money spent the day at Blacon Community Trust’s Kids’ Community Club.

The first project involved the makeover of a garden area, enabling the younger children to plant and tend their own green space.

Three new picnic tables were donated for the children to enjoy outdoor art.

The second project involved creating an allotment area for the older children. The volunteers designed a range of planting schemes including raised beds, stacks of tyres for potatoes, pots and planters.

Tricia Jones, childcare manager at the club, said: “I’m thrilled – Christmas has come early and it has made a huge difference for the children.”

The project was part of M&S Money’s Star Programme, a management development scheme aimed at staff who want to progress into their first line management role within the business. There are 36 employees involved in the current programme and each participant was assigned a community project.
