AN AWARD-WINNING businessman visited West Cheshire College to inspire students to follow in his entrepreneurial footsteps.

Andrew Donaldson, who founded BiG Storage, visited the college’s Ellesmere Port campus to speak to business students about how he started his company and went on to become one of the region’s most successful businessmen.

During his 20 years of trading Mr Donaldson has won 20 business awards, including Cheshire Business Person of the Year in 2010/11.

He said: “I hope my talk to the students has inspired them to become entrepreneurs of the future. My advice to any young person would be to do something they love. If you enjoy your work and are passionate about your job then you will find it easier to succeed.”

Helen Nellist, vice principal at the college, said: “We were delighted that Andrew took time out of his busy schedule to speak to our business students.

“Andrew started up his own company locally from a small amount of funding and has gone on to create a number of very successful businesses. He is a great inspiration for our students and he gave them some great advice on how to succeed within business.”

Mr Donaldson’s original business was set up in 1991 when he was granted a £2,000 loan from The Prince’s Trust. He used it to set up a warehouse fit-out company in Crewe, which has become one of the most successful businesses in The Prince’s Trust’s 25-year history.
