Mexican warrior Ruben Montoya says he will be Paul Butler’s worst nightmare when they clash in Liverpool next month.

Great Sutton’s Butler – the unbeaten British and Commonwealth super-flyweight champion – faces the fearsome Montoya at the Echo Arena on Saturday, December 7.

Butler will be defending his WBO Intercontinental title, while the vacant WBA Intercontinental belt will also be on the line.

Montoya, who has stopped eight out of 12 opponents, fancies his chances of taking both straps back to Mexico.

He said: “Butler has shown that he is a good fighter and can fight. I respect him as every opponent, but I will beat him.

“I will bring the heat and I will give Butler a tough night. I will be a nightmare for him. He will find out that fighting Mexicans is such a different league.”

The 27-year-old added: “He has never been down. Well, tell him that there is always a first time and on December 7 I’ll take him into deep waters. He will know places where he hasn’t been before. He will visit the canvas, I assure you.”

But while Montoya is supremely confident of winning the fight, those in the Butler camp are equally sure their man will prevail.

The 24-year-old’s Manchester- based trainer Arnie Farnell this week described Butler as the best fighter he has ever worked with.

Farnell added: “I’ve trained Tony Bellew, Frankie Gavin and Joe Selkirk – some top lads – but it is not only about talent but dedication.

“Paul is the most dedicated guy that I’ve seen out there.

“Some people might have loads of natural talent or loads of power but if you are not 110% dedicated then you’ll not make it. Paul wants to succeed so much. He wants to be the best.”

Farnell thinks Montoya’s style will suit former Vauxhall Motors ABC man Butler.

“I’ve been watching Montoya on YouTube,” he said. “He is strong and very muscular. He’s a come-forward fighter who throws lots of hooks and he will want to fight with Paul. He’s not fought people as good as Paul. I think him coming to fight will play into our hands.”

The Echo Arena show is headlined by Paul Smith’s defence of his British Super-Middleweight title against Luke Blackledge, Stephen Smith’s British Super-Featherweight title defence against Gary Sykes and Liam Smith’s defence of his British Light-Middleweight title.

The undercard will feature Ellesmere Port’s fast-rising lightweight Matty Fagan.
