To those still around to remember it, it must seem like another world when vendors would stand on the streets to sell newspapers.

To be precise it was around 50-60 years ago, as you can see from one of the pictures here, provided by kind permission of Chester History & Heritage Centre, that shows the former Cheshire Observer being sold on Bridge Street in the 1950s.

Other Chester sights included in this week’s trip down memory lane include a bingo hall on Brook Street, Laycocks mineral water works near Chester station and the demolition of the former Chester Market in the late 1960s before the current design was built.
