A fun evening with antiques experts Christina Trevanion and Giles Hutchinson Smith brought people from all over Cheshire and Shropshire to a Malpas festival.

The ‘What’s it Worth Evening’ was held at Tushingham Hall, the home of Mr and Mrs Peter Moore Dutton.

Christina is well known as a partner in the firm of Trevanion and Dean, the auctioneers and valuers, who are based in Whitchurch.

She and Aaron Dean founded the company in 2014, but the idea was born years ago over coffee in a Southampton University library where Aaron and Christina were studying.

She specialises in jewellery, silver, ceramics, glass and pictures. Having worked in the industry for more than 10 years, Christina has a wealth of experience under her belt and is a popular expert on Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip, Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is and Flog It!

Giles, who lives near Whitchurch, is one of the world’s experts on art, antiques and design. He was chief executive of Mallett PLC, a glamorous gallery on Bond Street and Madison Avenue with an international client base of Hollywood stars and Royalty, together with many of the world’s richest people; some famous and others infamous.

He co-founded Masterpiece London in 2010 which has grown to be London’s premier art and design fair and recognised as one of the world’s most important art events.

There was a prize for guessing the age, origin and value of the antique pieces Christina and Giles talked about, and this was won by Jonathan Baldwin from Church Minshull.

Many people enjoyed the opportunity to get an evaluation of one of their own treasures, and proceeds from the valuations went to The Friends of Whitchurch Hospital.
